Troubleshooting
No one's audio is captured
Your words show up in the transcript but the other person's don't. Almost always the Screen Recording permission.
Updated 2026-06-10 · Verified against v0.10.25
- Symptom
- You see your own words in the live transcript, but nothing from the person you're talking to.
- Cause
- macOS needs the Screen Recording permission to capture the audio your Mac plays — the other side of the call. If it's off, Sussur only hears your microphone.
- Fix
- Turn on Screen Recording for Sussur in System Settings, then quit and reopen the app.
Sussur captures two audio streams: your microphone (your voice) and your Mac's output (their voice). The second one rides on the Screen Recording permission. If it's off, you get a one-sided transcript.
Fix it
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording.
- Turn on the toggle next to Sussur.
- Quit and reopen Sussur — this permission only takes effect after a restart.
- Start a new session and confirm both voices now appear.
Fixed when both your words and theirs show up in the live transcript.
Still not working?
- Check your microphone too. In Settings → Audio, confirm the right input device is selected.
- After a macOS update? System updates can reset privacy permissions. Re-check both Microphone and Screen Recording in System Settings.
- Permission revoked mid-call? Sussur pauses capture and shows a notice rather than crashing — re-grant the permission and start a new session.
